Meet Haathi Dada
Chess was born in India as chaturanga, and an elephant was one of its pieces. Haathi Dada, our elephant coach, explains every lesson in simple words and cheers you on. Mistakes are welcome: that is how we learn.

Is Chaal free?
Yes. Chaal is free to play with ads. An optional one-time Premium purchase removes the ads and gives unlimited hints and every board theme.
Do I need an account?
No email or password: pick a nickname and play. On Android you can connect Google Play Games so your progress comes back if you change phones.
I've never played chess. Can I learn here?
Yes! Unit 1 starts with the board itself. Each lesson is a few short steps with Haathi Dada, and you practise every idea on the board.
Which languages does Chaal speak?
Bangla, Hindi and English, lessons included. Chaal picks your phone's language and you can switch in Settings.
